July 2005:  Crane Tech Speaks at API Crane Conference

Bo Collier was guest speaker at the 2005 API conference in Houston that concentrated solely on crane safety for offshore cranes and rigging.  Bo's talk centered on the need for practical testing of offshore crane operators and the means to accomplish the task.  The conference was attended by several hundred who have specific responsibilities in the offshore crane and rigging field.

"The need to properly qualify crane operators is task that must be taken on by offshore companies," says Bo.  "Those who operate every day get plenty of experience and Crane Tech's evaluation of many of these personnel showed a high level of safe operation skills.  But, many operators only operate occasionally and need improved skills." Collier outlined methods for setting up and administering a practical operating test that provides non-subjective results.  Since many operators are trained and evaluated by persons who are not themselves fully qualified operators, Collier told the group "the system in place at many facilities leaves gaps between what management understands the skill level to be and the skills actually in place."
